Frequently Asked Questions
New to Therapy –
What Can I Expect?
During the initial therapy session you can expect an exchange of information between us. I will give you information about my background, style, the therapy process, and my practice policies. I will then learn from you about what has brought you to therapy, relevant history, your expectations, and goals for therapy.
With me, therapy will go at your pace and at your discretion with what you would like to share – it is an unfolding process.
By the end of the first session, you will likely have a good sense of how comfortable you feel with me and whether I'm a good fit for you as your therapist. Additionally, we will have developed some concrete goals for therapy and an initial direction for the sessions to come.
While academic credentials and professional experience are of course important, just as necessary is the rapport you have with your therapist. Are you comfortable? Do you feel safe? Do you feel heard and understood? You can tell a lot over the phone during your first contact, and certainly after your initial session you should have a sense of whether it is a good fit for you. Trust yourself in what feels right for you and your particular needs.
Currently I am an out-of-network provider that accepts private pay only and do not accept insurance directly. I can provide you with a superbill receipt for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
